Environmental impact studies via CRI.

The EIA is the step that blocks most Moroccan mining projects. AMAY has supported mining companies since 2016 in preparing, drafting and filing environmental impact studies with Regional Investment Centers (CRI).

Questions

Quick answers.

What is a mining EIA?
The Environmental Impact Study is a mandatory regulatory analysis in Morocco for any mining project. It assesses consequences on soils, water, biodiversity, local populations, and proposes mitigation measures.
Is the EIA mandatory for my project?
Yes, under law 12-03 on EIAs and the Moroccan mining code, every mining operation project requires a validated EIA before the exploitation agreement is issued.
Where is an EIA filed in Morocco?
With the Regional Investment Center (CRI) of the relevant region, which forwards it to the Regional Impact Study Committee (CREI) for validation. AMAY has managed this filing since 2016.
How long does EIA validation take?
Typically 2 to 6 months depending on project complexity and region. A well-prepared file accelerates the process significantly.
What happens if the EIA is rejected?
The CREI asks for additions or refuses the project. Without a validated EIA, no exploitation agreement is delivered. Our role is to avoid this blockage by building a solid file from the start.
